 The Opportunity

As the CWO of this company, you will set and execute the company Wine strategy.

That means leading the team in charge of sourcing wines internationally and nationally, harvesting and expanding a tight network of producers and importers, and playing an active role in this activity yourself. The ideal candidate will be a team leader who will develop and implement a sourcing strategy with demonstrated organizational and negotiation skills, be responsible for the integrity of the wine selection process, oversee the development of private label brands, and contribute to the production of high quality wine content. 

Other key components are being a good ambassador and a self-starter.  An extrovert if you will!


Headquartered in San Francisco and Napa, California


  • Manage a team of highly qualified wine professionals (MS and MW candidates) goaled with sourcing about 1000 wines a year from approximately 400 domestic and international suppliers.
  • Directly source and own a portion of the company’s supplier accounts, or act as the executive sponsor for the rest of these suppliers. 
  • Responsible for generating the company’s contribution margins goals through an optimal product mix and well-negotiated margins
  • Oversee a strategically structured and rigorous wine selection process in line with the highest standards of international wine competitions (Decanter World Wine Awards, TEXSOM etc.)

Nurture and grow a private label program that is aligned with the company goals and strategy.  Generate ideas for new offerings, collaborate very closely with Editor in Chief and Marketing team to generate high quality content that contributes to strengthening the company’s brand and drive daily sales.


  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated and ambitious with strong work ethic, business savvy, negotiation skills and proven ability to succeed in deadline driven business.
  • Developed organizational skills to effectively manage a fast-paced deal pipeline in a high intensity workplace.
  • Comprehensive international wine knowledge and exceptional palate, with advanced industry credentials (SWE, WSET, MS and/or MW) or current enrollment in a recognized program.
  • Ability to analyze international wine markets to understand consumer trends and locate the best wine values globally.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with wineries.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Wide comfort range in dealing with an exceptionally diverse community, distributor, lifestyle and economic customer base.
  • Ability to act as spokesperson both at events or via video.
  • Ability to continually maintain the highest standards in ethics and conduct.
  • Ability to travel as needed to source and maintain vendor relationships and attend major trade events.
  • Works effectively under deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license; physical ability to accomplish travel by car and plane; ability to sit and operate computer; ability to lift 40 lbs.
