Purchasing Manager - Purple Wine & Spirits

Reports To:  Director of Supply Chain

 Position Summary:

The position is responsible for procurement of packaging materials, management of existing materials and project management for bottling operations related to their brands. The Purchasing Manager will guide the product from idea to packaging material application on the day of bottling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Negotiates with vendors for good and services, negotiating the best possible price and service guarantee.
  • Establishes purchasing policies and ensure compliance.
  • Collaborates with marketing to evaluate executability of the design and materials selected.
  • Selects vendors based on company established criteria and competitive quoting.
  • Develops new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.
  • Examines bids and makes awards.
  • Establishes account/credit and terms.
  • Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors cost during the time period.
  • Ensures Investment Budget rules are followed and keeps track of all DAD’s to ensure adherence to policy.
  • Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers.
  • Works closely with receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrived and purchase orders are closed out properly.
  • Compiles data for and participates in the vendor evaluation and review process.
  • Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with U.S. laws.
  • Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.
  • Makes entries into NAV - Vintigrate for Purchase Orders, Bill of Materials and Bottling Work Orders.
  • Visit the bottling line during production of new products to establish quality expectations.
  • Works with QA on any non-conforming materials.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related area
  • Eight to 10 years of purchasing experience
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and make independent decisions
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skill
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, MRP software
  • Experience in Microsoft Navision – Vintigrate
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment
  • Basic knowledge of ISO and Food Safety Programs
  • Excellent computer skills with emphasis on MRP, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work long days when required
  • Self-starter and ability to look for areas to improve processes
