Benchmark Consulting is now actively recruiting for the position of Policy Director at the Napa County Farm Bureau.

Today, the Napa County Farm Bureau (NCFB) is one of 53 county organizations under the umbrella of the California Farm Bureau Federation, which operates by the philosophy that more can be accomplished for the good of agriculture by working collectively rather than individually.
 
This philosophy is witnessed in the Napa County Farm Bureau membership totaling over 700 local farmers and ranchers, individuals involved in production agriculture and non-farm members and businesses that support our goals, activities, and services. We are a voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental organization whose basic goal is to ensure the right political, social, and economic climate for the continuation of agriculture.

JOB SUMMARY

The Policy Director represents the interests of the members and their elected Board of Directors in an informed, dignified manner; works with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to develop and implement a long-range strategy which achieves NCFB’s mission.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Policy Development and Legislative Activities and Duties:

  • Responsible for research and policy development on issues, regulations and political affairs that impact Napa County agriculture
  •  Represents the interests of Napa County agriculture before local, regional, state and federal agencies and   bodies when necessary, with board direction and understanding of association’s policies
  • Works closely with Administrative/Fundraising to define priorities and implement direction of Board of Directors
  • Keeps the board and committees alerted and informed on issues and problems that directly concern them
  • Informs membership of legislative issues and enlists their assistance when necessary
  • Handles routine work such as meeting policies and publicity

Public Relations:

  • Represents the programs and mission of the organization to the media, funders, other organizations, and the general public
  • Maintains a good working relationship with media and acts as a media resource.
  • Creates and distributes press releases, when appropriate, to industry and non-industry media while assisting with the creation and publishing of association newsletters
  •  Maintains the position of Napa County Farm Bureau as the voice of Napa County agriculture

Agricultural Industry Affairs:

  • Develops a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field while being aware of wine industry-related organizations, committees, boards and groups
  • Maintains an active and cordial working relationship with local, regional, state and federal governmental bodies, other Farm Bureaus, other farm organizations and non-farm organizations

Services to Membership:

  •  Aids in developing understanding and participation among the membership on key industry issues
  •  Maintains a good working relationship with those responsible for direct service programs
  • Recognizes and understands “chain of command” in both direct services and affiliated companies and activities
  • Recognizes and understands the operation and philosophy of the “grass roots” federated structure of Farm Bureau

Committee Duties:

  • Assists chairperson(s) with meetings and programs for the following standing committees: Executive Committee; Natural Resources; Land Use, Tax, Rural Safety & Housing
  • Provides support and guidance for ad hoc and special committees
  •  Researches committee issues
  • Works with the chairperson(s); prepares meeting agendas
  • Records accurate meeting minutes

General:

LOCATION:

This position is based in Napa, Calif. The preference is for the selected candidate to live in Napa County.
