Under the direction of the National Sales Manager, this position is responsible to positively represent, and increase the sales of the winery in the state of California. Responsible for day-to-day contact with key On and Off premise accounts and retailers, working in partnership with the distributor sales force, communicating needs and expectations in areas of allocations, depletions, marketing programs and product placement. Keep National Sales Manager informed of critical information and trends in the market place. Attend tastings, sales meetings and special promotions, always acting as an ambassador for the winery.
Account Calls / Market Work (70%)
On & Off-premise Account Calls/presentations in both Southern & Northern CA markets
Event planning/coordination of wine dinners, distributor education/events, inventory, samples, POS orders & distribution, marketing communication & implementation
Follow up with accounts, maintaining presence in account and relationship with buyer
Sales representative/distributor follow up
Travel/driving for market work
Education / Training / Events (15%)
Training at distributor level/trade events
Training at accounts; restaurants, wine shops, hotels, etc.
Planning & Prep (home office time required) (15%)
Preparation for sales calls, visits by Owner and/or NSM, events, trainings, etc.
Follow up after sales calls, market visits, events, etc.
Communication and direction with/from NSM & ownership, customers, distributors, etc.
Tools - POS ordering, printing, creating, etc.
Calendar - planning time, events, market visits, etc.
Pricing presentations, inventory tracking
Account Call Tracking
Extra "emergency" marketing tasks, wine delivery, etc.
Monitor Market Activities / Market Awareness
Candidates being considered for this position must have the following experience and knowledge level:
Education/Experience: Minimum of two years experience selling wines through multi-tiered distribution channels. College degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related discipline (preferred.)
Skills: Must be an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, comfortable in front of large and small audiences. Must possess strong listening skills, and outstanding sales skills (follow-up, closing, overcoming objections). Good PC skills (Windows: Word/Excel/Outlook/Powerpoint). Must be a self starter, be able to juggle multiple situations, and able to work independently. Ability to manage and plan business activities. Experience planning/coordinating events, and outstanding time management skills. Must possess a high level of integrity, be self-confident, have an excellent ability to build relationships. Understanding of the importance of providing outstanding customer service. Creative with a winning attitude, and the selling abilities of telling a story and influencing.
Knowledge: Passion for and extensive knowledge of California wine.
Physical: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and travel (includes overnight stays). Must be able to lift and carry 45+ pounds.
Other: (Includes licenses, certificates, age etc.) Must possess a valid Driver’s license in the state CA. Must be at least 21 years of age
